Strokes Captain Rutherford claims club title after thrilling final round shootout

Last weekend saw the annual Strokes Open hosted by Strokes Minigolf Club take place in Margate with the win being clinched by local Club Captain James Rutherford with an ace on the very last hole of the day! A winning score of -10 over 3 rounds was very much in keeping with scoring from last year, bettering the predicted 33 average for a win by one shot. Fantastic play from James, coming in with key clutch putts in the last round such as the ace on Hole 18 and a fantastic save from the back of Hole 11!
Seve Kukielka (-9) finished one short back in 2nd, chased by the outstanding Scott Lancley (-8) in 3rd. Both performed admirably on the day and helped add to the drama of a great last round to witness!

It was very close in Category 2 as well, with Strokes’ Matt Dodd and Jon Angel finishing tied on -1 (tied 4th overall). It was Jon Angel who beat Matt in the play off for the gold medal, with Paul Preston taking 3rd place with a play off win of his own against club mate Luke Ryan.
In Category 3, it was Foxes’ Ricky Turner who came 3rd, narrowly beaten by Dee Relf who had a a great tournament. Márton Geda took the category win though with a fine performance, finishing just +2 on the day.

The top Female Player was Dee Relf, the top Junior was Elena Teubler and the player with most aces outside of those who placed was David Woodcock (winning in a playoff against Dragons’ Richard Jones). Congratulations also to Gaz Combs who was the top Novice on the day.

It took a 36.3 average to make the Top 10 this year – proving again that Strokes Adventure Golf is one of the most challenging places to visit on tour! We return again in the autumn for the British Championships when the standard is sure to be just as high…
