How does it work?
The Order of Merit – Explained
- Each strokeplay event on the BMGA tour has ranking points associated with it.
- The amount of ranking points per event is based on the number of Category 1 players in attendance. A category 1 player is defined as a player in the Top 16 of the latest rankings or a player who has won a tour event within the last 3 years (or major within the last 5 years). Tour/Major winners carry 100 points minimum. Dependant on position in the current rankings, a Category 1 player add between 50 (16th) and 200 points (1st) to the points total available for any given event.
- Each 1 day BMGA-run event is capped at 2000 points for the winner, club opens are capped at 1800 points.
- The majors of the BMGA Tour (British Open, British Championships, World Crazy Golf Championships) automatically get an additional 200 rankings points, so can carry up to 2200 ranking points for the winner.
- All tournaments that are BMGA affiliated carry a minimum of 1200 ranking points for the winner if there are at least 6 Category 1 players. If there are less than 6 Category 1 players the BMGA-run 1 day events carry a minimum of 1,000 points, club opens carry a minimum of 900 points.
- All players receive ranking points for taking part in tour events, 100 points is deducted from the total available for each shot each shot on average they are behind the winner’s average e.g. if you finish 3 shots behind the winner in a 3 round tournament (average 1 shot per round) and the total number of points available was 2000, then you would receive 1900.
- Your total ranking score is comprised of your 6 best points totals over the preceding calendar year.
- A tournament can only remain as a valid ranking score for a maximum of 1 year so will automatically be replaced by your next best score after that time period has elapsed, unless a tournament of the same name is planned at the same venue later that year.
