Third time’s a charm for Seve Kukielka who wins his third British Championships with first victory at Strokes

The 2025 British Minigolf Championships delivered a weekend of thrilling competition, exceptional skill, and memorable moments at Strokes Adventure Golf in Margate. Players from across the UK came together to contest one of the sport’s most prestigious events, providing fans with close finishes, standout performances, and impressive displays of consistency. The final major of the year, the British Championships has a rich history and there were many players hoping to claim the title in their respective categories.

Overall Champion

The overall crown was claimed by Seve Kukielka (Gloucester Aces Minigolf Club), who once again demonstrated why he is one of the leading figures in British minigolf. With steady play across all seven rounds, Kukielka successfully defended the trophy he won on home turf in 2024, marking his third British Championship title. Only he and Murray Thompson managed to post under-par rounds throughout the tournament, underlining the remarkable level of consistency required to win at this level. His total of 230 (-22) was a testament to both his technical skill and mental resilience under pressure.

General Male

1. 🥇 Seve Kukielka (Gloucester Aces Minigolf Club, WAL) – 230 (-22)

2. 🥈 Will Donnelly (Strokes Minigolf Club, ENG) – 235 (-17)

3. 🥉 Murray Thompson (Hastings Minigolf Club, ENG) – 237 (-15)

The General Male category saw an intense battle for the podium. While Kukielka remained largely unchallenged, Will Donnelly fought valiantly to secure second place after a playoff on the final hole. Murray Thompson also impressed, posting consistently under-par rounds and finishing just two strokes behind Donnelly. Their performances highlighted the depth of talent in the men’s division and made for a highly competitive event.

General Female

1. 🥇 Ruth Sturdy (Geminigolf, ENG) – 258 (+6)

2. 🥈 Dee Relf (Hastings Minigolf Club, ENG) – 265 (+13)

3. 🥉 Shelley Cooper (Foxes Minigolf Club, ENG) – 266 (+14)

In the General Female category, Ruth Sturdy showcased her trademark consistency and calm on the greens, producing a second-round 34 that set the tone for her championship. Dee Relf and Shelley Cooper stayed in close contention throughout, but Sturdy’s experience and precision ultimately proved decisive. Her performance reflects her ongoing dominance in the women’s game and sets a high standard for competitors in future tournaments.

Seniors

1. 🥇 Jon Angel (Foxes Minigolf Club, ENG) – 243 (-9)

2. 🥈 Martin Greenhead (Strokes Minigolf Club, ENG) – 249 (-3)

3. 🥉 Scott Lancley (Thanet Silverbacks Minigolf Club, ENG) – 266 (+14)

The Seniors division saw a compelling mix of experience and skill. Jon Angel produced a near-flawless series of rounds, averaging 34.7 per round to claim victory. Martin Greenhead pushed hard throughout, but Angel’s consistency on key holes ensured the championship remained in his hands. Scott Lancley rounded out the podium with a solid showing, demonstrating both resilience and determination.

Super Seniors

1. 🥇 Terry Exall (Thanet Silverbacks Minigolf Club, ENG) – 235 (-17)

2. 🥈 James Teubler (Thanet Silverbacks Minigolf Club, ENG) – 256 (+4)

3. 🥉 Mark Wood (Strokes Minigolf Club, ENG) – 257 (+5)

The Super Seniors category provided some of the most dramatic moments of the tournament. Terry Exall played brilliantly and, at times during the final round, looked capable of challenging for the overall title. His remarkable total of 235 (-17) secured the category win and second place overall, with a playoff hole deciding the final positions against Donnelly. James Teubler and Mark Wood performed admirably to take second and third place, respectively, rounding out a strong field.

Juniors

This year’s Juniors title was uncontested due to low entries. Nonetheless, Julian Teubler put in a solid performance and successfully retained his 2024 title, showing poise and consistency that bodes well for his future in the sport. His continued development demonstrates the quality of youth talent in the British minigolf scene.

Most Consecutive Aces: Chris Smith (Gloucester Aces Minigolf Club), achieving 5 consecutive aces at Strokes, following his remarkable 7 consecutive aces at Hastings earlier in the season
