Ben Cassidy delivers clinical performance to win his first tour title at Gemini Open in Gloucester

The Gemini Open 2025 was hosted by Aces Minigolf Gloucester, run by Ruth and Steve Sturdy of Gemini Golf Club, and marked a significant milestone as it was the first time ranking points were available for a Gemini event. The day saw a strong field compete across all categories, with players producing excellent scoring and consistent performances throughout the tournament.

The title went to Ben Cassidy (Gloucester Aces Minigolf Club), who produced a performance of remarkable composure and consistency to claim his first tournament victory. Cassidy began his opening round with a four but showed immense focus from that point onwards, not dropping a single shot for the rest of the day. His rounds of 28, 30, and 28 gave him a total of 86 (-22), securing a well-deserved win and marking a memorable breakthrough in his competitive career.

His victory was made even more special by the family connection, as his daughter Leah Cassidy also took top honours in the Junior category – a fantastic achievement for the father-and-daughter duo representing Gloucester Aces.

1. 🥇 Ben Cassidy (Gloucester Aces Minigolf Club) – 86 (-22)

2. 🥈 Simon Brown (Gloucester Aces Minigolf Club) – 91 (-17) – won in sudden death play-off

3. 🥉 Richard Jones (Dragons Minigolf Club) – 91 (-17)

The Male category saw an excellent standard of play throughout, with Richard Jones and Simon Brown both finishing on 91 (-17) to share second and third places. Jones’s consistency was a key factor in his podium finish, while Brown impressed with a composed display that included some fine putting under pressure. Brown claimed second with a play-off win.

Female Category

1. 🥇 Ruth Sturdy (Geminigolf) – 103 (-5)

2. 🥈 Rachel King (Gloucester Aces Minigolf Club) – 104 (-4)

3. 🥉 Cindy Kukielka (Gloucester Aces Minigolf Club) – 104 (-4)

In the Female division, Ruth Sturdy continued her strong run of form with another victory, showing her trademark precision and consistency across the three rounds. She held off a close challenge from both Rachel King and Cindy Kukielka, who tied just a single stroke behind.

Junior Category

1. 🥇 Leah Cassidy (Gloucester Aces Minigolf Club) – 106 (-2)

2. 🥈 Dexter Adam – 123 (+15)

The Junior title went to Leah Cassidy, who played confidently throughout and maintained composure well beyond her years. Her total of 106 (-2) saw her finish clear at the top, following in her father Ben’s footsteps. It was a special day for the Cassidy family and a proud moment for the Gloucester Aces Minigolf Club.

Novice Category

1. 🥇 Philip Jennings – 103 (-5)

2. 🥈 Lucy Adam – 121 (+13)

3. 🥉 Gail Ashby – 128 (+20)

The Novice section also delivered plenty of excitement. Philip Jennings produced an excellent total of 103 (-5) to secure top spot, showing great promise and a calm temperament on the course. Lucy Adam and Gail Ashby completed the podium after consistent displays throughout the day, both earning well-deserved recognition for their efforts.

Highlights and Notable Performances

One of the standout moments of the tournament came courtesy of Jon Angel (Foxes Minigolf Club), who recorded the lowest round of the day with a stunning 26. Across the field, scoring remained strong, with many players achieving under-par totals and several personal bests being recorded. The event once again highlighted the strength in depth across British minigolf, with competitive spirit and camaraderie shining through at every level.
