Will Donnelly wins his second British Adventure Golf Masters after play off win at Sidcup

The British Adventure Golf Masters has a long and rich history as an event on the BMGA Tour and so many legends of the game have won the title over the years, claiming the coveted tweed jacket. The 2024 edition of the BAGM took place at Mr Mulligans Dino Golf at Sidcup on Sunday 9th November. With over 30 players taking part, the competition was fierce and with conditions being ideal (no rain!) there was some fantastic scoring from all who took part.

After three rounds, Strokes’ James Rutherford and Martin Greenhead were tied in the lead on -6 with Will Donnelly just one shot back on -5. Will started the final round very strongly shooting into the lead with 3 aces in the first 5 holes. It was a steadier start for James and Martin, both keeping pace with Will, until an unfortunate dropped shot from Martin on 11 saw him fall back to level par for the round.

With just a 1 shot lead from James going into hole 17, Will elected to lay up and secure his 2. Martin took the same route and going last on the hole James was left with little choice but to go for the ace and see if he could push Will for the title… he managed to sink it, drawing level with Will going into 18. Pars all round on the last meant that Martin had secured 3rd spot and James and Will would play off for the jacket. It was Will that triumphed in the play off on the 2nd hole and the local lad was a worthy winner of his second British Masters.

In Category 2, not only taking the Junior Title but also coming 3rd Julian Teubler put in a great performance. Derek Bentall was on good form too finishing in 2nd place but it was Paul Preston who stormed to victory with a convincing 31 in his final round to win gold, finishing on -5.

In Category 3, Cameron Fincher beat Robert Dubery in a play off for 3rd place. Nick Harman continued his fine form and came 2nd, just one shot behind tour regular John Sharp. John played brilliantly throughout the 4 rounds and special mention and congratulations must go to him for achieving his first ever top 10. Bravo John, hopefully it will be the first of many.

Shelley Cooper played consistently throughout the day to finish top in the Female Category.
