Steve Lovell wins the final Putterfingers.com Sussex Wasps Open
The Putterfingers.com Sussex Wasps Open returned for its eighth and final edition this weekend, rounding off a history of inclusive and welcoming club level tournament play which has been enjoyed by tour regulars and less frequent players alike.
A small but classically built Urban Crazy 12 hole layout, the course offers a chance to rustle deep in your ballbag and experiment with your minigolf balls to fashion some interesting shots off the perfectly smooth borders that adorn the course – serving as a good introduction to competitive minigolf.
Since it’s first edition, the Sussex Wasps Open (as it was known then) has prided itself in putting on a welcoming weekend which includes rosettes for many, prizes for everybody and fun for all.
In 2018 the event sealed its place in BMGA history as tour regular Ruth Burke became the first ever female player to win a professional ranking title in the UK with a commanding display, much to the delight of many! Other notable winners include Derek Bentall (another who gained their breakthrough first win here), Steve Lovell and Rocky Bullen.
It was fitting perhaps that Sussex Wasps club captain Steve Lovell claimed the title with some excellent scoring, eventually winning by 4 shots from Foxes Captain James Shaw in 2nd and tour stalwart John McIver in 3rd.
