Marton Geda Hungary for the maiden title, while Jones challenge Peters out at Welsh Crazies
The 2025 Welsh Crazy Golf Championships, hosted by Dragons Minigolf Club, brought together a strong and diverse field of players from across the UK and Europe. Across three rounds of competitive play, the tournament delivered close contests, standout performances, and a few surprises.
Marton Geda of Hungary, representing the host club Dragons Minigolf, emerged as the overall winner with a composed and consistent performance. Geda opened with a 29 in the first round and followed it with scores of 37 and 30, finishing with a total of 96. His 12-under-par total gave him a clear four-shot margin over the rest of the field and earned him a well-deserved victory.
Peter Jones of Wales mounted a strong challenge and briefly led the field after two rounds, thanks in large part to an excellent second round of 28. He went into the final round as leader but couldn’t quite match Geda’s closing pace, carding a 38 to finish with a total of 100, eight under par, securing second place.
Third place was tightly contested, with three players finishing on 103, five under par. Ruth Sturdy of Geminigolf claimed the final podium position thanks to consistent scoring across all three rounds. She was joined on the same total by Gloucester Aces teammates Chris Randell and Balazs Tompa, both of whom played solidly to share fourth place. Tompa’s result followed on from his recent win at the British Singles Matchplay, confirming his strong run of form.
Further down the leaderboard, under-par finishes came from Henri Myers (Dragons Minigolf Club), Richard Mandeville (Foxes Minigolf Club), and David Pumford (Wales), all finishing inside the top ten. Scott Lancley of Thanet Silverbacks posted a total of 107, one under par, while his clubmate John Sharp finished on par (108), having recently defeated Lancley in matchplay competition.
A special mention goes to Finn McPherson of Gloucester Aces Minigolf Club, who took home the honours as the top junior competitor. His total score of 112, just four over par, placed him 19th overall—an impressive showing for one of the youngest players in the field.
All in all, it was a well-run event with some great performances and close finishes. The Dragons Minigolf Club hosted another fanastic edition of the WCGCs and the mix of experienced players and new faces made for an enjoyable and competitive day of crazy golf.
