David Woodcock wins at New Brighton in our latest Charity Challenge

We were delighted to hold the first BMGA competition at New Brighton Adventure Golf on the Wirral over the river from Liverpool on 13 September. BMGA players have been visiting this challenging course inspired by holes on major Championship golf courses from around the world for several years but had never played a full three round event there.

David Woodcock equalled the long standing course record of 38 in his second round and looked to have an unassailable lead of 9 ahead of Richard Jones before the final round. That lead was down to 5 after the opening nine holes and the two were level by hole 16. A great putt for a par 2 on the final hole sealed the win for David with Richard having the consolation of a new course record of 36.

We were pleased to have local players Josh, Zach and Ian McKenzie joining us and playing with course equipment, Josh took an outstanding third place ahead of Henri Myers and Best Amateur. Behind Josh in the Amateur class, brother Zach finished second with youngster Daisy Woodcock in third. Ruth and Steve Sturdy made their first visit to NB with Ruth having two very competitive rounds but was derailed on the long curve of hole 7. And the five Woodcocks, David, Danni, Ellie, Daisy and Poppy made an attempt to match the Exalls for the most family members ever in one event. The charities nominated by the winners for donations were Southport Soup Kitchen and MND.
