Gloucester Aces Minigolf Club plant their flag as they win their first British Club Championships at Dunton Hills
The 2025 BMGA British Club Championships brought together the best and brightest of the UK minigolf scene for a day of high-level competition, camaraderie, and unforgettable moments. Hosted at Dunton Hills Family Golf Centre, the event featured eight teams competing for the coveted title, including the reigning champions, Strokes Minigolf Club.
From the outset, the tournament was packed with intensity. The competition began with a group stage, where teams were divided into two groups. Group A was fiercely contested, with Strokes 1 putting in a commanding performance, winning all three of their matches to finish top of the group with 9 points and a hole difference of +10. The remaining teams – Foxes 1, Thanet, and Gloucester Aces 2 – all finished on 3 points apiece, separated only by hole difference in a tight race for knockout qualification. In Group B, it was close too with Gloucester Aces 1 progressing as group winners and automatic qualifiers for the semi-finals, with Strokes 2 and Foxes 2 moving on to the quarter finals.
The drama escalated in the knockout stage. The quarter-finals were played over five holes, with sudden death used to settle ties – and settle ties it did. In one of the most gripping matches of the round, Strokes 2 edged out Thanet Silverbacks after a sudden death playoff. Meanwhile, Foxes 1 came out on top in a closely fought encounter with Foxes 2, winning by just one hole. Gloucester Aces 1 and Strokes 1 had already qualified for the semis as group winners, setting up high-stakes semi-final matchups.
In the semi-finals, Gloucester Aces 1 displayed their mettle, winning their match against Foxes 1 on the final hole. An all Strokes semi-final on the other side, meant that the club would be guaranteed a team in the final, it was Strokes 1 that progressed in impressive fashion. This set the stage for a dramatic final between two of the tournament’s most consistent performers.
The final did not disappoint. Gloucester Aces 1 delivered a composed and clinical performance, ultimately emerging victorious and claiming their first-ever BMGA Club Championships title. Strokes 1, who had looked strong all day, were forced to settle for second place. Foxes 1, showing tremendous resilience and team spirit throughout the day, rounded out the podium with a well-earned third-place finish. Strokes 2 placed fourth after a valiant effort throughout both stages of the competition.
This year’s Championships also saw a notable performance from the Foxes Minigolf Club, who fielded three separate teams, demonstrating the depth and development within their ranks. Strokes Minigolf Club also continued their tradition of excellence, with both of their teams reaching the top four, a testament to their consistency and competitive strength. We welcomed Gemini to the tournament for the first time in their history and of course, Thanet Silverbacks represented themselves well throughout.
Gloucester Aces 1 now join the prestigious list of champions in the tournament’s Roll of Honour, following in the footsteps of some of the UK’s most storied minigolf clubs.
For Strokes, while their three year reign as defending champions came to an end, their performance this year reinforced their status as one of the top forces in British minigolf.
As the sun set on another thrilling edition of the BMGA British Club Championships, the event once again proved to be a celebration of skill, sportsmanship, and club spirit.
Congratulations to Gloucester Aces Minigolf Club on a historic win, and to all teams and players who made the 2025 Championships an unforgettable chapter in BMGA history.
