British Lions return from Gumpoldskirchen, Austria

Seven days in Austria for the 2023 World Adventure Golf Masters was another great experience for Team GB. Once again there was good team bonding with players sharing on course coaching duties, with special mention to Ed Pope and James Rutherford for their excellent course mapping.

Thanks once again to our kit sponsor Urban Crazy https://urbancrazy.com/

GB Squad ( Back row l-r ) James Shaw, Steve Lovell, Ed Pope, Seve Kukielka.

(Front row l-r) Paul Tutt, Mark Wood, James Rutherford, Martin Greenhead

After two days of practice, team selection was once again decided over two rounds on the final morning of practice, this resulted in the following teams:

GB 1 – James R, Martin, Seve, Steve,

GB 2 – Ed, James S, Mark, Paul

The team competition was contested over 6 rounds SS. It was no surprise to see Austria take the top two places with Finland in third.  There wasn’t a lot to choose between our teams, GB1 finishing 16th, half a shot per round ahead of GB2, who finished 18th place of the 22 competing teams.

Once again Seve was our star performer, the rest of the squad acquitted themselves admirably with only 12 shots covering them.

 Individual highlights included:

Seve – Once again finishing top Brit. A superb opening round of 33, with six of seven rounds under 40 and a tournament average of 38.

Paul – Another solid WAGM performance with three rounds under 40, and a tournament average of 40. Paul also had the best overall record on hole 15.

Recent Dunton Open winner James Shaw made his International debut and reflected on his experience.

“It was a great experience to represent GB at the wagm, an experience I will never forget. If you’re a minigolfer in the uk, and you ever get the chance to go and take part, it’s the best thing to be part of, I’ve got some great memories”

You can see by the results the quality of the field we face each year, which makes the WAGM an extremely tough but thoroughly enjoyable experience, especially coming straight after the World Crazies.
